Real Deal Comedy Jam
CHRISTMAS SPECIAL!
Monday 27th December 2009 @ Town Hall, Birmingham

Definitely the most anticipated night pencilled into my diary, the dash from work across town (in 4 ½ inch heels) was a task in itself, but very necessary with 15 minutes left until show time. However it was walking into the lavish reception area and being escorted to our seats that had me bubbling with excitement. Peering down like a hawk from the balcony I couldn’t decide whether to ogle the array of fine males below me or buss the migraine skank in my chair and jam along with G-Man on the decks. I chose both, it’s called multi-tasking.
As the auditorium steadily filled up, it hummed with music and good vibes, but once the tannoy announced ‘two-minutes left’ that was it- everyone busied themselves from the bar and clambered to their seats. The spotlights slowly dimmed and the murmurs of chatter dispersed…From here on in the evening was an eruption of cheering and raucous laughter- many of the latter coming from my tipsy friend swaying next to me. (That Rose is a creeper.)
From start to finish the show was just hype! And with the undisputed heavyweight veteran, Robbie Gee hosting the affair it was an incredible first experience for me. Telling a few jokes himself, The Real Mccoy’s finest hasn’t lost his comedy touch or cockney charm.
The talented and fresh Miss London burst on stage like the ‘mad gyal’ she is (Robbie’s words not mine) breaking it down to Beyonce’s, Sweet Dreams and killed the crowd with her raw no-nonsense sense of humour. And speaking of raw, US comedienne Coco Brown repped big women all over the globe and her crudeness had me in tears. Ever wondered why women’s legs aren’t meant to touch at the top? Good thing it was an 18+ show that’s all I’m saying. And from one extreme to another we had Shorty with his backpack and mad personality; Bajan favourite, Quincy, plus London’s up-and-coming white-boy with flavour, Kevin J who also popped on stage and gave us a surprise performance. Keeping up the pace semi-finalists from BBC 3’s dance competition Move Like Michael Jackson, Peridot wowed the audience with their slick moves and spectacular acrobatics.
My verdict? The show was hilarious! I had a fun-filled evening of entertainment with all the trimmings. Am I booking a ticket for the next show? Don’t ask silly questions!
The Real Deal Comedy Jam returns to its home at the Alexandra Theatre for a Valentine’s Special on Sat 13th Feb 2010…Be there or be SQUARE!
