For me theres nothing like a great picture captured by a great photographer, and photography happens to be one of my favorite parts of the fashion industry.  So when I started following a photographer by the name of NEEFRESH on twitter, i checked out her work and it blew me away.  So after we connected I thought it was only right that I share her work with you guys and get an interview done with Neef so we could get to know her a little bit better.

So here it is…

INTRODUCE YOURSELF AND TELL US WHAT YOU DO?
The name is Neef Fresh. I’m a female freelance photographer from Brooklyn New york

LET US KNOW WHY YOU CALL YOURSELF NEEF FRESH?
There’s no real special reason to why I call myself Neef Fresh. Neef is a part of my first name,
and “FRESH” is just a description of my style and my aura

WHAT MADE YOU GET INTO PHOTOGRAPHY?
fashion, the love for fashion, my bro, and various other inspirations
and the love for art.

HAVE YOU HAD TO OVERCOME ANY OBSTACLES OR SETBACKS ALONG YOUR JOURNEY?
not really. the only obstacle i’d have to say is being on point and watching out for users
and people that try to befriend you because they see your potential and want to “mooch”
but other than that, that’s more personal. there’s not that much stress in what I do, i simply love it

IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT MAKES A GOOD PICTURE?
the first thing that comes to mind….

WHAT INSPIRES YOU WHEN WORKING, IF ANYTHING?
just knowing that the person I’m shooting is satisfied with the
outcome of what we’re shooting. in between frames i show the model or whomever
i’m shooting what we’ve got so far, when i see a smile on their face or hearing “that’s hot shit Neef”,
it inspires me to keep going. Knowing that I’ve got the necessary shots is dope!

WHAT CAMERA DO YOU USE?
a Canon

DO YOU HAVE ANY INFLUENCES OR PHOTOGRAPHERS THAT YOU RATE?
I’m influenced by myself self love is the best love.

WHO YOU INTO MUSICALLY?
all types of music honestly, old but goodies
from the 70s,80s. but I mainly listen to Rap.
mostly west coast rap and early 90’s music.

WHATS YOUR FAVORITE SONG AT THE MOMENT?
at this moment, I’d have to say “Rihanna-Rude Boy”
the video itself is awesome and inspiring to me,
photoshoot wise

YOUR FROM NEW YORK ONE OF THE FASHION CAPITALS OF THE WORLD, WHATS A TYPICAL DAYS DRESSCODE FOR YOU?
simple stuff. Skinny jeans, cardigans,graphic tee’s, low top sneakers or ankle flat boots,over sized handbags and gaudy accessories.

AND ALSO, WHAT BRANDS ARE YOU INTO?
I’m a simple girl, as of now, the brands i have mostly are Chip & Pepper,
Hudson, ALIFE, Supra, Gucci, and alot of other random vintage stuff.

OK, SO WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR 2010?
to grow as a photographer and to continue inspiring others,
as well as move to Los Angeles (mark my words)

AND WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACHIEVE IN THE FUTURE?
the same exact answer as the previous question basically…yet.
further more, I plan on one day eventually owning my own studio. I also plan on
investing more in my craft and business, I feel I will be more sucessful that way.
I think that anyone that invest in their craft the way they should, success is NOT far away.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE ABOUT YOURSELF YOU WANNA SHARE WITH US?
Hi. My name is Neef. and I’m a Capricorn. (sarcasm) and I plan on improving in my craft,
getting better at what I do, and one day, being mentioned amongst the greats! Soon plan
on traveling all over, besides traveling outside the US to visit Jamaica,
I also plan on visiting the UK to produce some greateness
 
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO UP AND COMING PHOTOGRAPHERS?
do what you want, shoot what you want, whatever comes to mind, don’t question it
or think it’s too bold or too soft. what makes YOU, You is what is most important
and that’s how most photographers gain their signature styles. don’t worry about
what others say. Be able to take in constructive critisim, and be able
to know the difference between “critique” & “hate”. watch out for the snakes,
fakes,flakes and users. keep your heads up and remain humble!

TELL US ABIT ABOUT WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU DO?
As a profession, I am in PR.  Everything else outside that, I am a blogger.  I am also currently running an art website, Xhatch (http://xhatch.com) together with David Hoang (http://davidhoang.com).
 
WHAT MADE YOU START YOUR BLOG?
 I began a blog after numerous filled notebooks.  I realized that I seem to get my thoughts down better if I type rather than write.  Fundamentally though, I blog because I wanted to share, not just my thoughts/opinions on certain matters, but on what I stumble upon online and everyday things. 
 
WHAT MAKES A GOOD BLOG IN YOUR OPINION?
A good blog should be engaging.  Good writing makes this possible too.  As always, content is what matters, so focus on that.
 
 
YOU HAVE SOME GREAT PICS ON YOUR SITE AND FLICKR SITE, HOW DID YOU GET INTO PHOTOGRAPHY?
Thank you.  I haven’t really gotten into photography.  I don’t even own a proper camera.  However, I do enjoy my plastic toy cameras and some of my Lomography ones as well.  I love taking photos mainly because I want to capture a moment.  I love taking photos of people though.  I wish I could finally get into photography and take photos of people.  Humans are such good subjects.
 
 
IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT MAKES A GOOD PICTURE?
 Composition.  If there is anything that a beginner in photography should take to heart, it’s the Rule of Thirds.
 
 
WHAT ARE YOUR MAIN INFLUENCES?
 I haven’t really thought of this but books.  I grew up reading a lot of books and much of who I am now, and what I know, have been because of the countless hours spent reading.
 
WHATS A REGULAR WORKING DAY LIKE IN THE LIFE OF NIKI?
 I wake up at 5am everyday to workout, catch a baseball game if there are any (on MLB.tv), and then head to work at nine till five.  When I get home it’s mostly just to finish up some articles or just browse the Internet, get through my unread posts on my feed reader.
 

TELL US A BIT ABOUT LIFE IN SINGAPORE?
 Life is in Singapore is different.  I grew up in Manila, Philippines and only moved here in May of 2008.  So far though, it’s been very enriching, not just in the work setting but personally.  Singapore really forced me to look out for myself.

Aside from Xhatch, I have a photography project to launch soon called Lateral Worldview.  It’s still being developed or more like, I’m finding time to do it.   In the future, I hope to be traveling/working in different places.

After checking out the new tropical tv website which is sayin’ alot right now folks i thought it was only right i catch up with one of the minds behind the site Luke, so we could delve into his mind and get lil’ background info on the man himself..  Hailing from London, UK but going worldwide this guy keeps it fresh with exclusive interviews with big stars like Asher Roth and Birdman..  Plus he gives me joke on twitter too so here goe’s…

FOR THOSE WHO ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH LUKEGK  TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF?
I am a comedian, producer and writer. Because I’m funny and know my stuff I now present for RWD Magazine & MTV in the UK. I also do work for brands like Nike and Boxfresh, some nice projects coming up with them guys. Fashion is something I’m getting more involved in, I have a few clothing and jewellery collaborations coming up.

WHO OR WHAT ARE YOUR INFLUENCES?
My biggest influences are guys like Larry David & Ricky Gervais. Great comedic writers and actors, who have gone from writing hugely successful TV shows to moving into film and being successful there. Also business wise, Richard Branson and Russell Simmons, they find gaps in markets and fill them and make great products wherever they go.

SO WHAT IS A REGULAR WORKING DAY LIKE IN LUKE’S WORLD?
Interview, filming, editting, meeting, meeting, filming, writing, writing, blogging, interviewing, meeting, editting, filming, writing, twitter, food, sleep, wank/sex….Basically.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR CAREER SO FAR?
Haven’t really had one to be honest, I’m usually not totally happy with anything I do, I’m a perfectionist and always strive for better. The general highlight though is being stopped in the street or hit up on the internet by people who love what I’m doing. Because knowing that they like the movement now, I can’t wait for their opinion in 6 months. That’s exciting.

WHAT ARE YOUR VIEWS ON THE CURRENT STATE OF THE URBAN ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY?
Commercially it’s thriving in a vulnerable market. So that’s great. But TV is dieing, online is coming through and Grime is dead, everybody’s making bad pop records.

Delerious Productions is one of a select few of my favourite producers. His versatile style and feel good vibes set’s him apart from the crowd. I caught up with him from the magicial medium that it is facebook !

DJ Ethic: How would you say your musical sound differs from other producers currently in the music scene?

Delerious: Im always trying to make something fresh and new by mixing up diferent styles with my own new ideas
to make crazy melody lines with banging drumbeats. I aim to make the people sing along to the beat as
the song!

DJ:Can we be expecting an album or mixcd from you in the near future?

DP: Right Now im actually working on both! Ive been really enjoyin the funky house vibe recently and doing
quite alot of tracks, so i hooked up with dj reflex and done a mix cd all of my tunes featuring the likes of
Sweetness, Ruby, Pheobe a whole load exclusive instrumentals and more! Besides that ive been slowly working
on an album project called Musical Architecture thats going to feature a range of up and coming and established
Artists ive been working with. Im looking to get it completed mid 2010!

DJ: Your music consists of a variety of genres, which do you enjoy making most and why?

DP: Yeah i basically produce what i feel to be honest! Anything From grime to rnb and pop. Grime is what i originally
started off with so it gave a rough edge to my style!but in the recent years ive expanded realised that music is just
music, as long as its good and touches people!
Right now though im a big fan of the uk funky movement, its a nice positive vibe and it reminds me of the good old
garage days! Besides that im ive got another style that i enjoy making but your gonna hear that when the album drops..lol

DJ: How did you first get into what your doing now?

DP: Ive always loved creative things like music and art, i didnt actually learn how to play! i was just around my cousins
who actually showed me how music was made and once i got my hands on my first programme(fruity loops 4.0)
it was jus forward from there. Just loved creating new stuff and trying to basically tell stories with my beats.

DJ: You’ve had UK Artist Bashy feature on one of your productions, how did that come about and what other major artist’s have you worked with?

DP: Yeah I had him feature on my track with Jade Smallz called ‘I Found You’. Basically he heard the original and he
loved it so much that he jumped on it with a hot 16! i think this is how the scene should be with more people
working together and making good music that they actually like! Ive also worked with the likes of chipmunk, tinie tempah, ironik pmoney, Durrty Goods and quite a few others. Should hopefully have tunes with marvel crew, shea soul, L.A cartier and some new bits with Jade Smallz!

DJ: Is there anyone producer in particular that you feel you look upto and draw inspiration from ?

DP: In fact there’s a few id have to say Timbaland and Darkchild done alot for the sound of music in the last decade. Beyond him theres the legend Quincy jones who built a big platform for music Producers with his hit albums with MJ! And from closer to my career i think Wiley and Davinche both were a great inspiration for me growing up

DJ: Do you have any another passions besides music ?

DP: I love anything doing anything to do with expressing yourself, im quite a sick artist!and i could have been a decent athlete but
i think music was just one of those hobbies that turned into something very serious for me!

DJ: What advice would you give to anybody that’s looking to become succesful in the music industry?

DP: I would say just be yourself and make what makes you happy. The industry is not a smooth wave to ride but you just need to
keep puttin in the work and never give up because if you you beleive in yourself then others will soon beleive too and have no choice but to support you on your journey

DJ: What other projects have you got planned for the near future that we can look out for ?

DP: Right now just working on the mix cd and album but expect quite a few projects with other artists. Just Produced an album with
Sweetness and the single ‘truthful’ should be dropping soon with a video! Also watch out for another talented vocalist im working with called Enrico Delves and our first single ‘Genuine Instinctis’.

DJ: What is your opinion on ‘Grime’ artists selling out for a commercial crowd?

DP: My view on this is strong, im trying to be appreciated all over the world at the end of the day! grime was a sound which helped
shape alot of the artists we see getting signed now, but i cant deny there are alot of issues with the scene and the way it works
which forced alot of the emcees to think outside of the 140 tempo box! At the end of the day the aim is to sell records and in grime not enough people are buying and supporting ino

DJ: Your currently at Uni….What one are you at and what are you studying ?

DP: Yeah im at kingston in my 3rd year of architecture! Still drawing and designing streets while making these beats! Its a tough balance but ive figured it out! Its good to have a long term back up sometimes so big up the people out there working or in education, keep it positive!

What’s up everyone, it’s Fresh 2 Def Clothing’s boy Emz  and I caught up
with Daniella the founder of Talent 2009.  I met her at her apartment to ask
her a few questions about her show.

Emz F2D: Can you tell us who you are and a bit about yourself?

Daniella: I’m Daniella, I’m from Nottingham but I’ve been living in
Birmingham for six years and I’ve been doing Talent  for five years so this
will be the fifth one in 2009.  I run an organisation called Aspire for you
which is a social enterprise basically dedicated to providing development
showcasing training opportunities for young people. We also run an event
management company alongside that and we provide work experience for young
people.

EMZ F2D:  What is Talent 2009?

Daniella:  Talent 2009 is the ultimate entertainment extravaganza; Basically
we’ve got young people, students and non students from across the midlands
and some of them from beyond. Were giving them training in event
management, project management marketing, so we’ve had twenty volunteers
doing all of the event management side, we did that with a company
called ‘Smarty Pants marketing’.  We’ve got the rest of the young people
doing catwalk fashion design, Vocal coaching, chorography, performance
coaching and music industry training.  This basically comes together in talent 2009 where the volunteers can put there new found talents to use and the performers can perform and show what they can do. So
there will be singing, dancing, poetry, rapping, and MC’in,  theres also going to be a series of fashion shows with models that are students and young people and fashion designers that are student’s aswell, basically they are
all going to be competing to be crowned Talent 2009.  There will be a winner within each category, singing, dancing etc and they will all win industry prizes. We are going to have a judging panel which include DJ Gchild from
1extra, Reggie Curve, Def Jam, Daneo Tanya Anderson who’s a dance choreographer from Birmingham and Richard Costello who managed Jamelia and N-Dubs etc.  And they will win different prizes which include the chance to
perform with Doneo in a music video and free membership to Mahogany models and  a variety of
other big prizes.

EMZ F2D: How did you start?

Daniella:  When I was at uni i was the president of the African Caribbean
society I went to UCE and there was nothing going on so we decided to do a
talent show for Aston, Birmingham and UCE so we could get to see who the
other people were at the uni’s and at that point coz I thought I was a
singer and a dancer and I wanted to perform so i put my own show on and I
performed in it. It sold out and we had it at the drum so we decided to do
it every year we got good sponsors the first year and we thought that it
could be a good money making kinda thing and it just got bigger every year

 
EMZ F2D:  Who’s your show for and aimed at?

Daniella:  It’s aimed at everyone, it’s kind of got and urban slant coz
that’s the kind of music I’m into mainly and a lot of the people i work
with also and it’s hosted by Slim.  Its going to have rapping, its going to
have the  MC’ing so people who kind of love black music, black culture the
designers are quite cross cultural we’ve got people from Poland, people from
Greece so with that its open to all cultures.  It’s a multi cultural
event.  And in terms of age groups  its a family
event  so people can come with there grandmothers and kids.

EMZ F2D: What do you, and what can people gain from Talent 2009?

Daniella: Well the fact that it’s a entertainment extravaganza as I like to
say, its going be a night of fun there’s going be a whole load of give
always from a whole loads of organisations coz freebies is always good. You
get to see local talent, national talent, get to see comedy and dance, there’s
not really any other event that has everything. Its a good networking
thing, this is something for everyone in whatever community your from to
kind of get together and celebrate the positive achievements of young
people.

EMZ F2D:  Where do you see yourself and your show in the future?

Daniella:  Well the plan is to have it as a national event,  have regional
heats west midlands, east midlands, go around the country and do a tour and
have the main event in Birmingham to find the overall talent of whatever
year it is, with big prizes, big PA’s with the artists who are in it
having the chance of being in the charts, coz at the moment with urban
music you’ve got your Chipmunks and your Bashy’s but in terms of RnB
artists there’s not really that much going on. So i’m just trying to give
people more opportunities in the future just from being in the show.  Me
myself I want to take Aspire 4 you to on a national level, doing events in
different cities, training young people in different cities aswell and
training in different areas with this is event management but we also want
to do photography, we want to get in to fashion design, and want to get into
marketing and PR anything that young people want to get involved in we just
want to be the number one training provider for that.
